This book deals with sex in the most honest terms I've ever seen in Christian writing. Jonathan McKee realizes the importance of answering all of the questions teens have about sex, regardless of how awkward we may find them. He rightly asserts that teens will seek the answers to their questions. Would you rather your child approach you for the answers, or their friends and Google?McKee certainly covers the basics rights and wrongs, but he reinforces the fact that sex is an awesome gift that God gave us to enjoy. This is an aspect that often gets lost in our conversations regarding sex and morality, but it is something teens need to hear. He goes beyond the basics, however, and addresses topics that many Christian writings either dance around or ignore, including hooking up, "how far is too far?", masturbation, pornography, and more. He supports everything he says with Scripture and solid research, and each chapter ends with a discussion guide to help parents with these conversations as they go through the book with their kids.In a culture that bombards teens with a skewed view of one of God's greatest gifts, our kids need to hear the truth from us in loving and blatant terms. Overall, a great resource. This book is an easy read for students, and is good for adults as well. Fair warning, the book is graphic, not in an unwholesome way, but a honest way. This is a book you read before you give to a student. This book answers many of the tough questions that students are dealing with today and does so from a biblical as well as scientific framework. Would be a great resource for youth minister looking to do a sex teaching series as well. Great resource.
Fabulous! Jonathan Mckee gives real world examples of situations teens can potentially find themselves in, and FINALLY we have answers of logic, science, and scripture to back up the age old question "Why wait for marriage?" other than just saying because God said so. Just giving the birds and bees talk isn't enough these days, we need to be ready and willing to address the questions our kids have. With this book I feel like I've been given a helping hand to offer my kids something they can explore and dig deeper with, not just to preach at them. Kudos for taking this subject head on Mr. Mckee!
I head the author on Family Life Today, and I knew that I had to get this book! I am a teacher who has heard it ALL from the mouths of teenagers and, I knew that I had to have this book to prepare myself for future parenting and to share with a younger cousin. I read this book in a weekend, just to be sure that I knew what I was sharing and to have the knowledge for myself to share with my kids one day. It is short, approachable, honest, and, most importantly, Biblically-based. This is not just, be abstinent and that's it. This book goes into the emotional, spiritual, and physical whys and hows, and explains in depth what God's plan is for sex and marriage and how sex is wonderful and a beautiful gift from God, when enjoyed according to His plan. Thank you, Mr. McKee!
I was embarrassed to not have had the talk earlier than now with my teen daughters. It can be attributed to a compilation of things, thinking if I delay, that would automatically squash their interest, or it would come out hypocritical, or even not reflect conversation that is Godly. But I was thrust in the hot seat when asked at well child checkup if they had discussed sex with parents. I was like a deer in headlights seeking help. The authors coverage of the range of topics on sexuality, his candor, AND most importantly, his yielding to scripture makes me feel so much more prepared. Not just for young ones, the takeaways for all ages abound in this easy to read book.
