I loved this book. It was clearly written and easier to understand than other books I have read on President Reagon. I learned more about his early life. How difficult some of it was, He loved his father but his father was a difficult man, an alcoholic who was in and out of his life. He lived like most people, not rich or pampered, not poor and needy. He always worked hard and expected to do the best he could in all he attempted to do. He was kind and good, polite and kept himself as clean and dressed as well as he could afford to dress. He excelled in popularity, was a natural born leader who loved his country passionately. His family life was in more detail, his wives and children, which I enjoyed. After reading this book I felt like I knew Ronsld Reagon better, admired him more, understood him and had a better understanding of the difficulties he faced as President. He will, no doubt, be respected among one of our finest, most beloved presidents as I believe he should be. I highly recommend this book for all who do not know Reagon but should know him in this highly regarded way. It is a favorite of mine, right up there alongside my best loved George Washington, John Adams and Abraham Lincoln. Please read it and see for yourself. CLBc
Brett Harper is an author new to me, but I will search out other of his books. This is a very well written, well researched, and I felt fairly balanced biography of what Harper and other call "the most unlikely" President. Very informative about behind the scenes of Pres Reagan & his rise in politics, resulting in his serving 8 years in the White House; he wasn't an insider, and like Trump, tried to remember the 'little guy'. He didn't succeed at everything, but he did get the economy going and brought the Soviet Union to the bargaining table and to its knees. Great, congenial man of America.
I enjoyed this book because I lived thru it. I remember praying for the hostages on the hijacked plane and the Russian negotiations for peace. Ollie North and his being question ed by congress. Reagan was a great President who clearly championed the American people and brought back National pride. We need that today.
I enjoyed reading the whole book. I learned many things about him that I didnt' know. I woudl reccommend it to anyone.
Interesting and fairly thorough biography of Ronald Reagan. Easy to follow and not too much editorializing.Recommended for students or those curious about the history of the Reagan White House years.
Quick read, not very introspective, but still a nice introduction to Reagan. I liked it, but if I really wanted to read something more analytical, I probably would have chosen something different.
Started out in little snippets so shallow I thought it might be a child's book. But it soon found its pace in stories of the friend we still miss. Not a lot of depth but a satisfying revisit to the life of a wonderful and unique man.
