As a current senior miniature dachshund owner and someone who is soon to own a miniature dachshund puppy, this book has been a great, informative read for both of our dogs. Our current senior dog has a lot of health problems and this has been helpful regarding diet, care, and exercise. It has also been very helpful for my research for bringing our new puppy home in a couple of weeks. The author's recommendations for introductions, food, toys, and even collars are all ideas I wouldn't have thought of- and I have owned 2 miniature dachshunds already! The author is very knowledgeable on the topic and taps into the expertise of many dachshund breeders. You can tell that the people that have contributed to this book really care about the breed and doing what's best for them. I would highly recommend this book.
This was a great book, full of information and many knowledgeable opinions. This book provides some history, answers questions and helps guide new dachshund owners in developing more questions about this endearing breed. The photos led to a 4-star rating. They were all black & white and somewhat disappointing in the lack of detail when trying to understand various points such as color and conformity.
We have a new dachshund puppy, the fourth dachshund we have had, as well as a senior. I found this book very enlightening for both ends of the spectrum. I think it would be especially helpful to anyone trying to decide if this is the breed for them. It is also very helpful that there are opinions from a variety of professional sources and not just one author. I believe this book is well-written and it is easy to understand the information. I guess I was hoping for more tips on how to train these stubborn dogs. It was easy to read and a I will keep for the next time we purchase a puppy. I am still holding out for the perfect how to train these cuties. My three have trained me, but who knows in time I may win a few battles. I am not counting on it.
