I've admired the volume and quality of Derek's work for several years. For some reason, the artistic quality of the choices and layout doesn't nearly match some of his better volumes (eg, Canada, USA, California, West, Railroads). I think the area deserves better, and I sincerely hope that Derek is not rushing things. Besides the quality, I feel that there is too much focus on two cities, Seattle and Portland, and comparatively little about the nature of settlement elsewhere. But it's still a respectable work, if not quite as enjoyable and useful as some of the others.Do you also assume that there is a living, breathing Derek Hayes?

I bought this for a Christmas gift. It arrived quickly and packaged well as Amazon books always do. The book is beautiful and well researched. I almost wanted to keep it! If you are interested in the history of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks God for people like Derek Hayes, who LOVE what they do (or collect) and for publishers willing to let them go to it. A wonderful, deep book for people who like maps and the historical insights included therewith.

I have just started this book, and I love it. He has chosen an eclectic assortment of maps and charts to tell his story. The maps are beautifully displayed.

This is a marvelously detailed book and worth the expense. I learned a lot of history I never knew about the Northwest.

I gave this book as a birthday gift to a friend who is a history buff. The recipient of this gift really loved it. He loved the maps and the general information in the book. He recommended this book as a gift for another friend.
