This book is terrible. It is full of general statements, not strategies, and tons and tons of dense, wordy definitions, some of which are wrong. For example, on p. 113 in attempting to define inferences, it says: If a passage contains the phrase "DNA testing, while some consider it infallible, is an inherently flawed tehnique," the test-taker can infer the rest of the passzge will contain information that points to DNA testing's infallibility. INfallibility? They mean the opposite; vocabulary error! Or p. 111, when they try to convince readers that "a main idea is what the writer wants to say a about that topic" but then stress that "the main idea should not be confused with the thesis statement. A thesis statement is a clear statement of the writer's specific stance." Um, English, anyone? The thesis statement is the clear statement expressing the writers' stance. They are the same thing. Perhaps worse than the mistakes is the sickly-sweet "comforting" tone of the dense early pages, in which the book counsels readers multiple times to avoid panicking. I'm mad at myself for not noticing sooner that this book has no publisher. I'm guessing "Test Prep Books" is an Asian group producing books for kids overseas who might not recognize the total lack of useful content. The tone of the prose reminds me significantly of the tone on tests I've encountered in China.
Lots of good suggestions but is very compact and dense. Takes a few weeks to get through.
The guide is vary good.
This book is very helpful in giving the information needed to raise those test scores. I really like the way that the book gives you a test and then the answers are given with an explanation of why this is the correct answer. A better understanding of what you are learning is so helpful! Would recommend this book to anyone looking for a little help. I received this book from the author, for an honest review. If you have a student that will be taking the PSAT soon this study guide/manual is a must for the math section!! It covers all of the math that is on the PSAT as well as very detailed explanations on how to solve the problems. My children struggled with math so they needed something that would not be too challenging for them (or myself) to follow.This study guide is VERY easy to understand and It also has 2 practice tests in it as well. What I did was make copies of the practice tests so that I could test them more than once. After having them study with this study guide I feel very comfortable that they are going to pass their math section of the PSAT!
I highly recommend this SSAT review book. Reason: first, it has concise and complete concept review. Second, it has example to review the concepts need to be known. Third, the practice sets chosen in the book are excellent. Fourthly, the practice sets have detail anwsers ’ analysis. This is very good review book. Good job!!
This is a fantastic study guide for the SSAT! I love the bonus material that is offered in the book. They sent me a free DVD for the purchase of the material as well as proving test taking strategies, plenty of practice materials and very thorough explanations to problems. This is definitely more than what I was expecting from a test prep book.
I haven't taken the test yet, but the review material here is put together very well and the lessons are very easy to follow. The test questions with the explanations of the correct and incorrect answers is fantastic. Instead of just telling you what is correct, it describes why it is correct an why the other answers are wrong. Well worth the investment.
