Jennifer Lynne Matthews-Fairbanks studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC and graduated in 1999 with a specialization in intimate apparel. Over the years, Lynne has participated in numerous fashion events, won several awards and has been a mentor for many up and coming designers. Jennifer instructed at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising for nine years and owned a clothing design business for 11 years. For the past 6 years, Jennifer has been on the sourcing and development side of the fashion business. Her current projects include an introductory pattern drafting book and several sewing patterns. Jennifer's experiences have helped her create her educational books in design, pattern making and business. Her books are being used at universities worldwide. In addition to her books, she has release several videos and tutorials on many of the topics covered in her books.

Like: How well organized this manual is for the design aspect of clothing construction.Dislike: I'm finding it hard to find and download the half sized slopers mentioned in the manual.But overall I'm satisfied with this book.
Useless book, waste of time. just not good.
The whole book was super easy to follow thanks to the instructional sketches that accompanied each exercise. As a former student - who has forgotten over the years a lot of what I’d originally taken from her classes - noticed myself, quite frequently, hearing Jennifer’s voice teaching me all over again throughout the entirety of this informative piece. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone, even those who knows nothing. It not only reinforced my knowledge in pattern design, but also taught me even more than what I’d already learned in any of her classes.
I loved this book and will be using it to create courses for my clients who want to know and understand what they are doing regarding pattern design. The text is easy to follow, with very easy to interpret illustrations. The half-scale slopers that fit the PGM half size 8 dress form also made my day! I am heading to her website to buy some of the authors custom made acrylic slopers. I like my cardstock ones, but the acrylic versions are pretty awesome!!!
As a visual learning I liked the step by step directions and how it was accompanied with a diagram of each step.I felt the book was an excellent guide for beginners. I liked how the first section was all about the tools and fundamentals of patterns and fabrics. The way in which the books was sectioned of was helpful for beginners. It was straightforward and easy to follow for quick referencing. Having sewing instructions was another aspect of the book I thought was a wonderful idea. The blocks provided was helpful in being able to put into practice that are described in the book.I understand the book was all about learning the essentials of pattern manipulations but I wished I didn't have to wait until the next book to learn about drafting my own blocks. Perhaps in future editions the two books can be combined or grouped together.I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking to learn about pattern manipulations. Also, as mentioned it is also a good reference guide for those with a little more experience. I enjoyed re-learning about the basics of patterns."
